Kari Lake Appeals Dismissal of Arizona Election Lawsuit

by Madeleine Hubbard

Kari Lake, the Arizona Republican nominee for governor, is appealing a Maricopa County judge’s dismissal of her lawsuit challenging her defeat to Democrat Katie Hobbs, who is currently serving as secretary of state.

In a notice of appeal filed Tuesday, Lake asked the Arizona Superior Court to reconsider all 10 counts that she brought up in her original lawsuit as well as the attorneys’ fees she was ordered to pay.

The Maricopa County court had dismissed eight of Lake’s 10 counts early last week. Two of the counts, which involved Election Day ballot printing issues and procedural errors, were brought for a two-day trial that ultimately did not go in her favor.

“I am standing up for the people of this state,” Lake said Tuesday evening on former White House adviser Steve Bannon’s “War Room” tv show.

Maricopa Judge Peter Thompson on Tuesday rejected Hobbs’ request to sanction Lake for the lawsuit, but did order Lake to reimburse Hobbs for some trial costs, with interest.
